This is Our Story

This is our Story

In 2019, B.C (Before COVID) Our son, Lennon was born while my husband Jesse and I were finishing up a complete remodel of our dream home in the city. All the stars were aligning, and things were going so well; or so we thought. Little did we know a global pandemic was about to turn our world upside-down, and everything was about to change.

In March 2020, just as I started my new job, in the clinic I had dreamed of working at throughout graduate school, a global pandemic hit. Lockdowns started, social distancing was enforced, food shortages, unemployment, homelessness, looting, riots, and crime were rapidly on the rise. Was the city life really what we wanted for our family? We were in our dream home, but no longer in our dream location. We wished we could just physically pick up our home and relocate it to a secluded plot of land; but that was clearly beyond unrealistic. Like many others, we started to rethink our priorities, and what we wanted for our family. This lead us on our journey to which soon became Lavender Fields.

Looking to be closer to family, we made the difficult decision to sell our  dream home and move to Olalla, Washington.

Olalla is a small and charming community nestled between the Olympic mountains and the Puget Sound, to which the locals here refer to as, “The Center of the Universe.”

Our town has a rich history; not only known for berry farming, but also well recognized for an ominous story of murder and malice in the early 1920’s known “as Starvation Heights.” I highly recommend and encourage you to read the book, “Starvation Heights” written by a local author, and NEW YORK TIMES bestseller Greg Olson.

Melissa Oberlander, Jesse’s mother, lived on a small farm in Olalla known as “ The Daisy Heart Ranch.”  The neighboring property to Melissa’s, was where Jesse was grew-up as a child. The prior owner before us was Becca. Becca is an incredible human. She is a mother, a wife, a midwife, a gardener, a botanist, an herbalist, an expert in medicinal medicine. She taught us the true beauty of lavender, and all of the other flowers, plants, and medicinal herbs throughout the property.

Once we thought we were settled in our new home, anticipating the birth of our daughter that Summer; Our daughter Emma pulled the ultimate April Fools prank and decided to grace us with her presence at 29 weeks and 6 days preterm. 55-days we drove 40 minutes back-and-fourth to the hospital, until on the best weekend of the year; Jesse’s Birthday weekend, we finally brought Emma home with us.

As a Pediatrician, and as parents, we quickly realized that our lavender wasn’t just beautiful, it was versatile! Our lavender was humbling, it was serene, and the best part… It noticeably improved the quality of our children sleep!

We are Home. Here in Olalla. And  have worked incredibly hard to get this beautiful lavender farm up and running to its full potential!  We’re at peace, and we’re excited to share little pieces of our paradise with the community!
